This project has been put together by Gavi Fried ’14 and Jon Sweitzer-Lamme ’14 in support of Professor Steven Lindell‘s Computer Science 147: History of Mechanized Thought class at Haverford College. Both the course and this website provide a historical overview of mathematical and computational technology, spanning from the abacus to the Apple computers. Please explore and enjoy!
Funding for this Summer 2012 project has been provided by the Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities (HCAH) and the Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center (KINSC). Additional support comes from Michael Zarafonetis and the rest of the crew at the Haverford Library’s Digital Scholarship services. Special thanks go to Stan Augarten for allowing us to digitize and make available his 1984 book, Bit by Bit: An Illustrated History of Computers.
